Crescent Head

After an awesome weekend away in Walcha we were all keen to turn the camera’s onto some new scenery. Trev had done some research and the infamous cave at Crescent Head was due to line up with the sunrise over the June long weekend.

Saturday morning saw the first of three early starts for sunrise. We headed down to Pebbly Beach, a beautifully curved beach with glossy black rocks surrounding it leading around to a big headland at one end, called Big Nobby.

Saturday’s sunrise didn’t have much colour but those big black rocks didn’t disappoint.

Saturday afternoon we had decided on sunset at the infamous cave. As we descended down the cliff, i wasn’t sure if the boys had a hidden plan to hide our bodies, but after scurrying around two blind rock faces, whilst trying to beat the rushing water and waves we made it into the cave, or tiny little space that wasn’t made for four photographers and their gear ! As you can see, it was well worth it in the end.

Sunday morning we headed back to Pebbly Beach for sunrise, hoping the colour would be kinder to us – it wasn’t.

A nice moody sunrise

Gluttons for punishment we headed towards Hat Head to check out some pretty impressive sand dunes.

We ended Sunday with sunset at the famous bridge in Crescent Head (that was washed away only last weekend in the big storms)

Trev had called it and had packed up, and then boom the horizon lit up

Despite the weather predictions and making it three sunrises in a row, we headed out to Delicate Nobby, and as we walked onto the beach there were a few sprinkles and an ominous looking sky. Not deterred we set up and grabbed a few frames.

The weather looked threatening all morning
As i’m getting my feet wet, i see the colour starting

I move around the rocks to see what shot i can get with the  sun breaking through, and  boom, these magnificent Crepuscular rays (g-d rays) appear on one side and the threatening storm on the other of Delicate Nobby.

Great way to top off a great weekend
